MetaMask has unveiled a crypto payment card in the U.S. through a limited pilot program, offering users a new way to spend digital assets. The pilot allows select participants to try the MetaMask Card before a broader rollout.
The card enables users to make purchases using cryptocurrency from their MetaMask wallets at both physical stores and online platforms where Mastercard is accepted. However, residents of New York and Vermont are excluded from the program, and users must join a waitlist to participate.
This card works similarly to a crypto debit card, converting cryptocurrency into local fiat currency at the time of payment.
“The MetaMask Card pilot eliminates barriers between blockchain and real-world commerce,”
said Lorenzo Santos, Senior Product Manager at Consensys.
Crypto Life, the card’s program manager, partnered with MetaMask to issue the card. Eligible users can sign up via the MetaMask Portfolio and activate their cards through the Crypto Life website.
The MetaMask Card has already launched in regions including the EU, UK, Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, in collaboration with fintech partner Baanx Platform. Plans are underway to expand to additional countries.
The card supports linking with Apple Pay and Google Pay, offering compatibility with cryptocurrencies such as USDC, USDT, and WETH on the Linea network. This move highlights MetaMask‘s commitment to bridging digital assets with everyday financial transactions.
