Investor sentiment is shifting quickly after Standard Chartered raised its forecast for September’s Federal Reserve meeting, now expecting Fed Rate Cuts of 50 basis points instead of the earlier 25. The adjustment reflects a sharp slowdown in the U.S. labor market, where August payrolls added just 22,000 jobs against expectations of 75,000. Unemployment also climbed to 4.3%, breaking a year-long stability trend.

Analysts at the bank described the turnaround as the labor market going “from solid to soft in less than six weeks,” suggesting the Fed may be forced into a more aggressive stance. Bank of America also sees easing on the horizon, projecting a quarter-point reduction in both September and December.
Markets have reacted swiftly, pricing in a near-certain rate cut at this month’s Federal Open Market Committee meeting. Traders are now focused on Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s September 17 speech, which is expected to clarify how far and fast the central bank is willing to go.
For crypto markets, the expectation of larger Rate Cuts is driving optimism. Lower interest rates reduce borrowing costs, increase liquidity, and historically support demand for risk assets like Bitcoin. Derivatives activity reflects this view, with growing open interest in Bitcoin call options pointing to confidence that looser Fed policy could set the stage for another rally.
With the Fed under political and economic pressure, investors see September’s decision as more than a routine move, it could be the spark for the next phase of momentum in both traditional and digital assets.
