Charles Schwab is getting ready to introduce a new crypto trading service that will allow clients to buy and sell Bitcoin and Ethereum directly from their brokerage accounts. The upcoming platform, expected to be branded “Schwab Crypto,” is likely to launch in stages, starting with a limited group of users before expanding to a wider audience.
The company plans to begin with internal testing and a small pilot program for selected clients. If everything runs smoothly, broader access will follow. Leadership has previously indicated that this initial rollout could happen within the current quarter, suggesting the firm is moving closer to offering direct crypto trading to its customers.

Schwab already offers indirect exposure to digital assets through crypto-related ETFs, stocks, and futures contracts tied to Bitcoin. However, enabling direct trading of Bitcoin and Ethereum would represent a significant shift, bringing spot crypto access into the same environment where investors already manage stocks, options, and other assets. This move reflects growing demand from clients who want simpler and more integrated ways to gain exposure to crypto markets.
With around $12 trillion in assets under management and roughly 46 million client accounts, Schwab’s entry into direct crypto trading could have a notable impact. Even modest participation from its user base would represent a meaningful flow of capital into Bitcoin and Ethereum. It also highlights how large financial institutions are becoming more comfortable offering digital assets alongside traditional investments.
The broader trend is clear: major banks and brokerages are gradually expanding their crypto offerings as investor interest continues to rise. If platforms like Schwab Crypto gain traction, access to Bitcoin and Ethereum could soon feel as routine as trading equities, another sign that crypto is steadily moving deeper into mainstream finance.
