Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has thrown his support behind the Clarity Act, marking a noticeable shift from the company’s earlier stance. After months of discussions between lawmakers and industry participants, Armstrong said the updated version of the proposal now deserves to move forward.

“It’s time to pass the Clarity Act,”

he wrote, backing recent calls from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent urging Congress to act.

We agree. Thank you @SecScottBessent for saying it. It's time to pass the Clarity Act.

Grateful for all the bipartisan work among Senators and staff over the past several months to make this a strong bill. https://t.co/jHoZ1bfLVZ pic.twitter.com/YBKebDkq8B

Position Change After Earlier Concerns

Back in January, Coinbase opposed the draft, arguing the wording created uncertainty around market oversight. That resistance contributed to delays in the Senate Banking Committee, which has yet to finalize its portion of the legislation.

Since then, negotiations have continued behind closed doors. The latest version appears to address some of the concerns raised by the exchange, prompting the change in tone from Armstrong.

Still Waiting on Senate Action

The Clarity Act has cleared part of the legislative process, but key steps remain. The Senate Agriculture Committee approved its section earlier, while the Banking Committee still needs to handle rules related to securities and commodities oversight.

Lawmakers have been debating topics like tokenized equities, ethics provisions, and stablecoin yields, which slowed progress. However, recent comments from Coinbase’s legal team suggest a compromise may be close.

Policy Talks Continue in Washington

The push for clearer rules has also intensified conversations between industry leaders and policymakers. Coinbase executives have taken part in ongoing discussions about market structure, as pressure builds for Congress to establish a consistent regulatory framework.

Billionaire Kevin O’Leary says the Clarity Act will pass, potentially driving Bitcoin to $200,000.

With renewed support from Coinbase and growing momentum in negotiations, the Clarity Act is once again gaining attention as lawmakers consider the next steps.
