DoorDash Turns to Stablecoin Infrastructure for Faster Global Payments

DoorDash is moving part of its global payout system onto Tempo, using Stablecoin rails to pay drivers and merchants in more than 40 countries. The focus is simple: faster settlements, lower cross-border costs, and more efficient payouts.

Instead of relying solely on traditional banking rails, the company is leaning into blockchain-based payments that can settle almost instantly, with predictable fees tied to the US dollar.

DoorDash, one of the world's largest local commerce platforms, is building stablecoin-powered payment infrastructure on Tempo for its marketplace of merchants and Dashers across 40+ countries.

DoorDash’s Head of Payments summed up the thinking behind the move:

“If we can get merchants and Dashers their money faster, and do that in a way that’s affordable for them, that’s a no-brainer.”

Why Stablecoin Payments Matter

Managing payouts across dozens of countries comes with friction, different currencies, banking systems, settlement times, and compliance rules all add complexity.

Using Stablecoin rails helps reduce much of that. Payments that can take days through legacy systems may settle in seconds, while businesses gain more consistency on fees and foreign exchange costs.

We’re excited about stablecoins for a simple reason: they can help Dashers and merchants get paid out faster and more reliably.

That matters for a company handling massive payment volume across a global marketplace.

Bigger Signal for Enterprise Adoption

The bigger takeaway is not just DoorDash, but what it signals for Stablecoin adoption among major companies.

Tempo also revealed firms including Stripe are building payment activity on the network, reinforcing the view that stablecoins are moving beyond trading and into real-world financial infrastructure.

What makes this notable is that DoorDash isn’t a blockchain-native company experimenting on the sidelines. It’s using Stablecoin rails for a practical business problem: moving money faster and cheaper at scale.

That’s the kind of use case pushing stablecoins closer to mainstream payments.
