TON Returns to Its Original Token Name
The token powering the TON blockchain is getting a new identity.
Following a community vote, TON’s native token will now be known as GRAM, bringing back the name originally introduced in the project’s early whitepaper. The blockchain itself will continue operating under the TON (The Open Network) name.
For holders, the transition is simple: every TON token will automatically become GRAM at a 1:1 ratio. No swaps, migrations, or additional steps are required.
What Changes for Users?
While the token’s name, ticker, and logo are being updated, the network remains unchanged. Wallet balances and holdings will transfer automatically, with exchanges updating the new $GRAM ticker based on their own rollout schedules.
The decision was approved through a community vote, making it one of the most significant governance decisions within the TON ecosystem to date.
Back to the Roots
The move marks a return to the project’s original vision, with GRAM being the token name outlined in TON’s earliest documentation.
As the TON ecosystem continues to grow through its connection with Telegram and expanding user base, the rebrand aims to strengthen the distinction between the blockchain itself and the asset that powers it.
For most users, the only visible change will be seeing $GRAM instead of $TON on exchanges and wallets in the coming weeks.
