Bitcoin could soon be viewed as the new symbol of prosperity in the U.S., according to Changpeng Zhao. The former Binance CEO shared his belief that owning even a fraction of Bitcoin might someday carry more weight than owning a home — a dramatic shift in what Americans consider financial success.
His comments follow a major policy move in the housing sector: the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), under the direction of Bill Pulte, has asked mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to start looking into how crypto assets could play a role in mortgage risk evaluations.
Zhao reacted positively to this development on X, saying:
“This is great to see, BTC count as assets for mortgage.”
He went on to say:
“The current American Dream is to own a home. The future American Dream will be to own 0.1 BTC, which will be more than the value of a house in the US.”
This shift could mean big changes in how financial assets are assessed for people applying for a home loan. Under the proposed framework, cryptocurrencies held on regulated U.S. platforms may count toward mortgage reserve requirements — without needing to be converted to dollars first.
Pulte called the day “historic” for both digital assets and housing, saying:
“Today is a historic day in the cryptocurrency industry and the mortgage industry, whereby Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are now positioned to involve Cryptocurrencies in Mortgages.”
He added:
“Thank you President Trump for making the USA the crypto capital of the world!”
Meanwhile, Bitcoin remained steady near the $107,000 mark as the week wrapped up.
At a Friday press briefing, President Donald Trump also chimed in, calling Bitcoin a benefit to the country.
“It takes a lot of pressure off of the dollar,”
he said, adding:
“It’s become amazing.”
