Bitcoin (BTC) is seeing a surge in volatility as the U.S. presidential race tightens, signaling potential turbulence ahead for the cryptocurrency market.
Data from Deribit, the leading cryptocurrency options exchange, shows the Bitcoin implied volatility index has risen to 63.5% on an annualized basis, reflecting increasing market uncertainty over upcoming political developments. The seven-day implied volatility is even higher, at 74%, outpacing actual price fluctuations of 41% this week.

Political shifts are particularly notable in Pennsylvania, a key swing state, where Donald Trump’s implied probability of winning has dropped from 61% to 53%. Recent polling from a New York Times/Siena survey indicates a neck-and-neck contest between the two parties.
This uncertainty is impacting Bitcoin’s price, which fell below $68,000 after nearing a record high of $73,500 earlier this week. The ripple effects extend beyond crypto; the Ice BofA Move index for Treasury-note volatility has surged to 135%, the highest since last October.
