Blockcast has secured $2.85 million in funding to launch a new community-driven content delivery network built on Solana. The funding round was led by Lattice Fund, an early-stage crypto venture, with additional participation from Protocol Labs, Finality Capital Partners, AllianceDAO, Zee Prime Capital, RW3 Ventures, and angel investors, including Solana’s co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko.
The goal of Blockcast’s platform is to address the growing demand for high-bandwidth content, such as live streams, software updates, and online gaming, through scalable, decentralized infrastructure.
Mike Zajko, partner at Lattice Fund, emphasized the network’s potential:
“The internet’s infrastructure is under pressure from rising demand for high-quality content. Blockcast’s community-powered nodes offer a practical solution to this challenge. We believe their model will transform the way data is shared and consumed, and we’re excited to support their journey.”
Harnessing Solana for DePIN Solutions
Blockcast will tap into Solana’s ecosystem of DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) projects to build its delivery framework. Solana’s scalability, low fees, and fast throughput make it an ideal foundation for such infrastructure-heavy applications.
According to Cisco’s 2023 Annual Internet Report, internet traffic is growing by 24% annually, with live streaming alone increasing 15-fold over the last five years, now making up 17% of all traffic. This rapid growth has highlighted the need for new solutions to reduce latency, data consumption, and buffering in content delivery.
Merging Broadcast and Streaming Technology
Blockcast aims to bridge traditional broadcasting techniques with internet streaming to deliver high-bandwidth content like 4K live streams efficiently. This hybrid approach not only enhances the viewing experience but also reduces congestion for internet service providers (ISPs) and lowers operational costs for content creators.
Omar Ramadan, CEO of Blockcast, shared his excitement:
“We’ve worked hard to meet the security and service-level standards required by major streaming platforms. This launch will expand access to high-quality content for communities while also enhancing delivery efficiency.”
Using blockchain-powered infrastructure, Blockcast deploys scalable traffic servers, creating a more efficient and sustainable internet ecosystem. Their decentralized model promises not only to enhance the end-user experience but also to ease the growing strain on global networks.
