Canary Capital’s Staked Tron ETF
In a significant move, Canary Capital has submitted a filing with the US SEC for a new staked Tron ETF product, marking a new milestone for TRX. This move comes as the firm continues to lead the way in altcoin-focused exchange-traded funds.
The proposed product, named the Canary Staked TRX ETF, is designed to offer investors exposure to Tron’s price movements. Though Canary Capital has not yet disclosed which exchange the ETF will trade on, it has confirmed that the product will rely on pricing data from Coindesk Indices to determine its Net Asset Value (NAV). The firm’s filing follows closely after their Pengu ETF submission to the SEC just a month ago.
Canary Capital Group LLC will oversee the ETF’s operations and performance, while CSC Delaware Trust Company is slated to serve as the trustee.
This new fund is geared toward offering investors a regulated means to access staking rewards from one of the leading proof-of-stake digital assets.
Altcoin ETF Trend Grows Stronger
This filing for a staked Tron ETF by Canary Capital is part of a larger surge in interest around altcoin ETFs. The firm has also submitted filings for a SUI ETF, as well as for Hedera (HBAR) and Polkadot (DOT), making it one of the most active players in the altcoin ETF space with six proposals in total.
Other industry giants, such as Grayscale, 21Shares, Franklin Templeton, and VanEck, have followed suit, filing for ETFs based on Solana (SOL), XRP, Cardano (ADA), Dogecoin (DOGE), and Litecoin (LTC). This increase in filings reflects the shifting regulatory landscape in Washington, where recent moves by the SEC to reclassify certain Proof-of-Work assets like Bitcoin as commodities could pave the way for further altcoin ETF approvals.
Will the SEC Greenlight Crypto ETFs in 2025?
While the SEC has delayed some decisions regarding altcoin ETFs, optimism for approval remains high. According to Bloomberg analysts, there is a 90% chance that a Litecoin ETF will be approved by 2025 due to its classification as a commodity and its resemblance to Bitcoin in structure.
The appointment of Paul Atkins as the new SEC Chair is seen as a positive development for the crypto industry. Together with commissioners Mark Uyeda and Hester Peirce, Atkins is expected to support the approval of crypto ETFs. Experts anticipate that with this new leadership, multiple altcoin ETFs could be approved as soon as mid-2025.
