Coinbase has acquired Spindl, an onchain advertising platform, as part of its strategy to enhance discovery tools for developers and boost the growth of projects on its Ethereum layer-2 network, Base. This move reflects Coinbase’s broader efforts to strengthen decentralized marketing solutions and improve Web3 adoption.
Spindl, founded by Antonio García Martínez, is building a decentralized alternative to traditional ad networks, using smart contracts for attribution and measurement. García Martínez, who played a key role in developing Facebook’s original ad platform, is now bringing that expertise to the blockchain space to help projects grow more efficiently.
Jesse Pollak, creator of Base, emphasized that Spindl will provide developers with the tools they need to expand their reach and acquire users in a fully onchain environment. Coinbase’s head of business development, Shan Aggarwal, described Spindl as
“The first robust onchain advertising protocol”
designed to benefit both builders and users.
The acquisition also aligns with Coinbase’s broader push into decentralized infrastructure, including tokenized assets and onchain finance. By integrating Spindl into its ecosystem, it aims to provide better resources for blockchain projects, enabling them to scale effectively and reach wider audiences.
