Grayscale Takes the Next Step for Solana ETF
Grayscale Investments has filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to launch a spot Solana exchange-traded fund (ETF). If approved, the existing Solana Trust would be converted into a spot ETF, similar to Grayscale’s Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.
Details of the Proposed ETF
The spot Solana ETF, under the ticker GSOL, would be listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Grayscale’s filing reveals that the trust currently holds $134.2 million in assets and represents about 0.1% of the total Solana supply.
Coinbase Custody would act as the custodian for the Solana ETF, while BNY Mellon Asset Servicing would handle the administration and transfer duties.

Rising Competition
Grayscale faces competition from 21Shares, VanEck, Bitwise, Canary Capital, and Franklin Templeton, all seeking to launch a spot Solana ETF as demand grows.
Solana’s price has surged by 275% over the past year, pushing its market cap over $112 billion. The cryptocurrency is currently trading at $235, further boosting interest in the Solana ETF.

Next Steps for Grayscale and SEC Approval
Grayscale must submit an S-1 registration statement alongside its 19b-4 filing for SEC approval. If approved, this could mark a major milestone for institutional cryptocurrency investment.
Grayscale’s move towards a spot Solana ETF highlights growing institutional interest in Solana, potentially paving the way for more mainstream adoption of digital assets.
