PayPal Expands PYUSD to Arbitrum as ARB Sees Strong Price Action

PayPal has quietly taken a major step in expanding the reach of its stablecoin. PYUSD is now supported on the Arbitrum network, bringing lower fees and faster transactions for users looking to move stablecoins more efficiently.

While there’s been no big announcement, the update appeared on PayPal’s official documentation, confirming that Arbitrum now joins Ethereum and Solana as supported chains for PYUSD transfers.

This move appears to be part of a broader strategy to make stablecoin usage more practical in daily life, something that’s been challenging due to slow speeds and high gas costs on Ethereum’s base layer.

Market Reacts Fast: ARB Up 7%

Traders were quick to respond. ARB, the token powering the Arbitrum network, climbed over 7% shortly after the support was spotted. Activity on the network also spiked, with a major boost in volume, showing that market participants were paying attention.

But not all signs point to smooth sailing. Despite the volume increase, the token’s turnover ratio remained low, hinting that a chunk of this momentum could be short-lived. Still, it shows growing confidence in Arbitrum’s role as a go-to Layer-2 solution.

Making PYUSD Useful, Not Just Another Stablecoin

PayPal isn’t just listing networks, it’s trying to push people to actually use PYUSD. One of the ways it’s doing this is by offering a 3.7% annual yield, encouraging users to hold and transact rather than treat it like digital cash sitting idle.

The addition of Arbitrum is also strategic: it makes smaller transactions viable by reducing network fees, something that’s long been a barrier on Ethereum.

Interestingly, PayPal has put some initial limits in place, such as a weekly cap on transactions through Arbitrum. That might sound restrictive, but it’s likely part of a cautious rollout before wider availability.

What’s Next for PYUSD?

With Arbitrum now in the mix, and Stellar being explored for future integration, PayPal is clearly laying a multi-chain foundation for its stablecoin. Whether or not they’ll expand to other ecosystems like Avalanche or Base remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the company is serious about building out PYUSD’s real-world utility.

By plugging into faster, cheaper chains like Arbitrum, PayPal is positioning itself to compete not just as a payments giant, but as a key player in the evolving stablecoin landscape.
