Canary Capital Takes a Shot at a Pepe ETF
Canary Capital is pushing deeper into the meme-coin space after filing paperwork with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for a spot Pepe ETF. The proposal aims to create a fund that directly holds Pepe tokens, allowing investors to gain exposure through a traditional exchange-traded product.
According to the filing, the trust would store Pepe with a custodian. It also leaves room for a small allocation, up to 5%, in Ether, mainly to handle transaction fees on the Ethereum network.

Meme Coins Enter the ETF Conversation
The move stands out because Pepe isn’t built around revenue, yield, or a clear institutional use case. It’s a meme-driven asset, known more for community hype and volatility than fundamentals. Still, the ETF wave that started with Bitcoin and later expanded to Ethereum is now testing new territory.
Filing an S-1 doesn’t guarantee approval. It’s only the first step. But it signals that issuers believe there’s at least some level of demand, or curiosity, for ETF products tied to speculative assets like Pepe.
Price Pullback, But Interest Remains
Pepe is still far below its December 2024 peak, down roughly 87% from its all-time high. Despite that drop, the token continues to attract attention and maintain enough liquidity to interest product developers.

The bigger picture: the ETF race is no longer limited to major cryptocurrencies. It’s gradually expanding into assets driven largely by online culture and market sentiment, and Pepe is now part of that conversation.
