Stablecoins issued on Polygon are stepping further into the real world. Through a new integration with Oobit, users can now spend their tokens at more than 150 million merchants globally that accept Visa, from retail stores and travel bookings to online platforms.

150,000,000 Visa merchants around the world now accept stablecoins as payment on Polygon via @oobit.

Oobit has enabled support for major stablecoins on Polygon, including USDT, USDC and DAI. Instead of sending funds to an exchange or bridging assets ayment works similarly to Apple Pay or other mobile payment apps, but in the background, Oobit instantly converts the stablecoins into local fiat currency for the merchant.

That conversion layer is crucial. While stablecoins reduce volatility compared to traditional crypto assets, most businesses still prefer receiving local currency to avoid accounting complexity and balance sheet risk. Oobit handles that automatically, meaning merchants don’t need to manage wallets, private keys or crypto-to-fiat off-ramps.

Cost efficiency is another major factor. Traditional card payments through Visa can cost merchants up to roughly 3.5% in combined processing and interchange fees. On Polygon, transaction costs are typically just a fraction of a cent, often between $0.002 and $0.01, with settlement times of only a few seconds.

Oobit CEO Amran Adar summed up the significance of the integration:

“Polygon delivers transaction costs measured in fractions of a cent with near instant confirmations. That’s the infrastructure retail payments need. Now users holding stablecoins on the network can spend them anywhere Visa is accepted. The network finally has direct access to global commerce.”

The expansion also reflects a broader shift toward real-world blockchain payments. Polygon has seen growing activity tied to regional stablecoins such as Japan’s JPYC and Brazil’s BBRL, both designed to serve local retail and liquidity needs. With direct access to Visa’s vast merchant network, Polygon’s stablecoin ecosystem is moving closer to everyday usability rather than remaining limited to trading and DeFi.
