Paul Atkins, the newly appointed head of the SEC, made it clear he wants to keep the future of crypto rooted in the United States.
In a post shared on his official X account on August 4, Atkins said that during his leadership, the agency will
“Make sure the next chapter of financial innovation is written right here in America.”
His message accompanied a clip from his recent speech at the America First Policy Institute, where he emphasized the importance of encouraging homegrown growth in digital assets.
“The SEC will not stand idly by and watch innovations develop overseas while our capital markets remain stagnant,”
he said.
“We are at a threshold of a new era in the history of our markets.”
His remarks follow the launch of Project Crypto, a new initiative under the SEC aimed at updating outdated securities rules to better align with blockchain developments and help the U.S. compete on a global scale.
Rather than sticking with the old pattern of enforcement-first actions, Atkins said the goal now is clarity, especially when it comes to token classification and simplifying regulatory hurdles.
“The days of convoluted offshore corporate structures, decentralization theater, and confusion over security status are over,”
he stated.
“President Trump has said that America is in its Golden Age; and under our new agenda, our crypto asset economy will be, too.”
He also acknowledged the President’s Working Group for their recent report, which laid out actionable steps for agencies to follow in building a clearer regulatory path for crypto businesses in the U.S.
“This report is the blueprint to make America first in blockchain and crypto technology,”
Atkins concluded.
