SEC Approves NYSE Options Trading for Spot Bitcoin ETFs
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approved the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) to launch options trading for Spot Bitcoin ETFs. This decision offers investors broader access to Bitcoin-related funds and comes amid a recent surge in interest, with over $2.1 billion flowing into Bitcoin ETFs over the last five trading days.
The NYSE initially filed for these ETF options on August 14, aiming to expand its offerings with more crypto investment products. The SEC had been cautious, citing ongoing legal cases and concerns over cryptocurrency’s reliability as a financial asset. Earlier this year, it also delayed approving the first Spot Bitcoin ETFs. Now, with major banks and asset managers embracing these ETFs, Wall Street investors can capitalize on Bitcoin’s growing momentum.
Bitcoin Rallies on SEC Approval
Bitcoin’s value has been on the rise through Q3 2024, climbing over 13% in the last month and 8% in just the past week. Following the SEC’s approval, Bitcoin jumped 2% and is expected to gain further as the first day of options trading kicks off on Monday.
After hitting an all-time high of $73,000 in March 2024, Bitcoin is now approaching that level again. With options trading set to begin, analysts speculate that Bitcoin could break past $70,000 once more.
