Sony Enters the Digital Music Space
Sony is making waves in the digital music space with the launch of its first music NFT collection on the Soneium blockchain. This release is the result of a collaboration with Coop Records, an onchain label dedicated to reshaping how artists monetize and distribute their work.
“In collaboration with Soneium, Coop Records is redefining music monetisation models,”
Soneium stated in a post on X.
Unreleased Music from Tokyo’s NUU$HI Now Available on Sonova
As part of the collection, Tokyo-based producer NUU$HI has released a 22-minute unreleased track as an NFT, now live on Sonova, Soneium’s dedicated NFT marketplace. The track is priced at 0.000777 ETH ($2.11), with over 600 copies already minted.
Coop Records has been at the forefront of bringing music onchain, having moved over 600 songs to blockchain platforms. The label aims to provide artists with a more equitable revenue-sharing model, leveraging blockchain technology to ensure fairer earnings between creators, streaming platforms, and record labels.
Founder Cooper Turley recently noted the industry’s evolving priorities, stating,
“Crypto is finally entering the era where apps are the main focus. And with tokens at the center, creators and power users will be the biggest winners.”
Sony’s Expanding Presence in Blockchain and Music
Sony Blockchain Solutions Labs, based in Singapore, has previously explored blockchain applications beyond music, such as intellectual property protection and transparent royalty distribution. The company’s Ethereum Layer 2-powered Soneium mainnet officially launched on January 14, with ambitious plans to expand into the broader entertainment industry.
While Sony Music Group, which owns major labels like Columbia Records and RCA Records, has yet to officially link its operations to Soneium, the blockchain is quickly gaining traction. With over 248,000 accounts and nearly 2 million addresses recorded, adoption in the Web3 music space is steadily growing.

Engaging New Users Through Soneium Conquest
To drive more engagement, Sony Blockchain Solutions Labs recently introduced Soneium Conquest, a four-week campaign designed to introduce new users to its blockchain ecosystem. Hosted on the Galxe platform, the initiative includes educational modules, challenges, and interactive experiences focused on creativity, collaboration, and entertainment.
The first week highlights how blockchain technology empowers creators, while the second emphasizes the importance of community and digital collaboration. The final weeks dive into blockchain gaming, showcasing how Soneium enhances entertainment and user interaction.
The Future of Music Ownership and Distribution
With blockchain becoming an integral part of the digital music landscape, Sony’s strategic moves position Soneium as a key player in shaping the future of music ownership and distribution.
