Could Strategy Overtake Big Tech if Bitcoin Surges to $1 Million?
Financial analyst Tom Lee is making waves with a striking forecast: if Bitcoin climbs to $1 million, Michael Saylor’s company, Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), could end up being the largest publicly traded firm in the U.S.
Strategy’s Bold Play on Bitcoin
Lee believes the company’s massive Bitcoin bet could propel it past traditional tech giants, comparing its trajectory to that of ExxonMobil during its peak. Just as ExxonMobil’s valuation was heavily influenced by oil prices, Strategy’s future could hinge entirely on the value of Bitcoin.
Unlike most corporations that grow through revenue and profit margins, Strategy is building its value through Bitcoin accumulation. With Michael Saylor at the helm, the company has focused on acquiring Bitcoin instead of stacking cash, essentially turning its balance sheet into a high-stakes crypto play.
Lee argues that while Strategy doesn’t follow the usual financial playbook, it’s not without historical precedent.
Still a Long Climb Ahead
Even with its aggressive crypto approach, Strategy isn’t quite there yet. The company’s current market cap is around $2.5 billion, while tech behemoths like NVIDIA and Microsoft sit at $4.3 trillion and $3.9 trillion, respectively. That said, if Bitcoin reaches the million-dollar mark, Strategy’s value could skyrocket, putting it in direct competition with today’s top corporations.
All Eyes on BTC
Right now, Strategy holds an eye-popping 628,791 BTC, purchased for approximately $46 billion. They’ve also launched a $4.2 billion offering, planning to use that cash to buy even more Bitcoin. At present valuations, their Bitcoin stash is worth about $71 billion. In contrast, they hold just $50 million in traditional fiat currency.
This move has put Strategy among the top 10 U.S. corporate treasuries, surpassing even household names like PayPal and NVIDIA in crypto holdings. The difference? While most companies stockpile cash, Strategy is betting everything on an appreciating asset.
Meanwhile, Tom Lee’s own firm is following a similar strategy, but with Ethereum instead. His company now holds over 833,000 ETH, drawing parallels to how Strategy has positioned itself as the leading public Bitcoin holder.
