SUI Community Moves Swiftly to Approve Recovery Plan After Cetus Exploit
SUI network participants have overwhelmingly supported a recovery effort aimed at undoing the damage caused by the recent Cetus incident. With over 90% validator approval, the vote wrapped up ahead of schedule, paving the way for frozen assets to be safely transferred into a secure multi-signature wallet.
The community move ensures that impacted funds are held by trusted entities — including Cetus, the SUI Foundation, and security firm OtterSec — until they can be fairly redistributed to affected users.
Protocol Upgrade Clears Path for Asset Recovery
As part of the plan, SUI validators will initiate a protocol upgrade that enables the retrieval of compromised funds and their transfer to a protected wallet. Cetus, meanwhile, has begun outlining how it will move forward: improvements have already been made to the CLMM (Constant Liquidity Market Maker) smart contracts, which are now undergoing audit to ensure stability and safety.
Since the attacker shuffled assets frequently, what’s left is a mix of tokens — meaning conversions will be required to rebalance the pools fairly. Cetus has committed to handling this process cautiously to avoid additional volatility or slippage in the market.

Compensation, Audits, and a Phased Relaunch
To make sure that liquidity providers aren’t left behind, Cetus is also preparing a smart contract designed for compensation. Before being activated, it will go through independent third-party auditing to verify its reliability.

The team is also enhancing surrounding infrastructure to ensure full compatibility with the updated CLMM contracts and other services. Once the new system is in place and final checks are completed, liquidity pools will gradually come back online. Unaffected pools remain open and operational as usual.
A Collective Push Toward Security and Resilience
The rapid and unified response from SUI validators and stakers highlights the strength of the network’s governance. By choosing to act quickly and transparently, the community has demonstrated a strong commitment to security and collective accountability.
“Whether you agree or disagree, your involvement is another step towards dealing with this issue and growing our future together,”
said Cetus in a message to participants.
More updates are expected soon as the recovery process moves forward.
