A 16-year-old boy from East London has been charged with multiple terrorism offenses, including allegations of fundraising cryptocurrency for Al Qaeda. During a court hearing at Westminster magistrates’ court, it was revealed that the boy purportedly offered his expertise in digital currency and cyber security to the terrorist organization. He is charged with terrorist fundraising, training for terror activities, and possessing documents potentially useful for terrorist operations.
The prosecution, led by Lee Ingham, accused the boy of showing ideological support for Islamic terrorist groups, including Al Qaeda and the Pakistani Taliban (TTP). It’s claimed that he raised around $1,300 in cryptocurrency through these activities.
The boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, attended the hearing with his parents and pleaded not guilty to five charges. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring ordered the case to be sent to the Old Bailey for a hearing scheduled next month.
Currently out on bail, the teen must adhere to several conditions, including a nighttime curfew, a prohibition on social media usage, and restricted laptop use limited to educational purposes. While he is allowed to use his PlayStation, he cannot engage in online games or use it for communication. The next court date is set for November 2.
