Indirect Bitcoin exposure continues to grow
Vanguard has increased its stake in Strategy, adding 1,210,422 shares during the latest quarter. The purchase is estimated at around $195 million and brings the fund’s total holdings to 2,043,268 shares, up from 832,846 previously.
The position is now valued at roughly $255 million and accounts for about 0.73% of the ETF’s portfolio. While not a dominant allocation, the move signals a growing exposure to Strategy, a company increasingly defined by its aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy.
Strategy Stock Seen as a Bitcoin Proxy
With Strategy continuing to prioritize Bitcoin on its balance sheet, owning its shares has become more than a traditional equity play. For many investors, including large asset managers, the stock effectively offers leveraged exposure to Bitcoin without directly holding the asset. 📈
The ETF that holds Strategy shares also saw a modest intraday gain, though market attention is largely focused on the growing allocation to Strategy rather than short-term price movements.
Strategy Keeps Building Its Bitcoin Treasury
The timing of Vanguard’s move coincides with another major Bitcoin purchase by Strategy. On April 20, the company revealed it bought 34,164 BTC for about $2.54 billion, paying an average of $74,395 per coin.
Following the acquisition, Strategy’s total holdings reached 815,061 BTC, accumulated at an average price of $75,527. At current levels, that stash is valued at more than $61.5 billion.
Big Picture
Vanguard’s growing position highlights how traditional asset managers are still increasing exposure to Bitcoin indirectly. Instead of buying the asset outright, firms are leaning on Strategy, whose balance sheet is now deeply tied to Bitcoin, as a gateway into the trade.
