Bitcoin Supply on Exchanges Hits 6-Year Low

BTC outflows signal long-term holding and rising interest from institutions, ETFs, and treasury buyers.

There’s a noticeable shift happening in the Bitcoin market—coins are rapidly disappearing from exchanges, signaling a powerful wave of accumulation and reduced sell-side pressure.

Exchange Reserves Drop to Multi-Year Lows

Fresh data reveals that the amount of Bitcoin available on centralized trading platforms has slipped to its lowest point since 2019. Fewer than 2.9 million BTC remain on exchanges, a trend that analysts say is tied to strong hands pulling their coins into personal wallets for safekeeping.

Since April, this downtrend has only accelerated. Roughly 150,000 BTC have moved off exchanges, most likely heading to cold storage. The last time reserves dropped this low, Bitcoin kicked off a multi-year rally that saw gains over 200%.

“Bitcoin exchange balances keep plunging, now at their lowest point in 6 years,”

Confidence or Caution?

Historically, when coins exit exchanges en masse, it’s a signal of growing investor conviction. People aren’t looking to sell—they’re choosing to hold. That usually reduces short-term selling pressure and can set the stage for price moves upward.

But not everyone’s convinced. Despite the clear trend, some analysts, including Robert Kiyosaki, have warned of a potential Bitcoin correction in the near term.

What’s Driving the Outflow?

A big part of this movement seems tied to large players. In just the past week, companies adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets scooped up nearly 6,000 BTC. Since April, that number balloons to over 100,000 BTC absorbed by treasury strategies and institutional buyers.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin ETFs have continued to attract inflows. Since their debut, these products have pulled in massive demand, with more than 800,000 BTC now sitting in ETF-related custody wallets. As more Bitcoin moves into long-term holdings through trusts, there’s simply less left on the open market.

Between treasuries, ETFs, and individual investors locking away their holdings, the available supply on exchanges is drying up fast. If demand picks up while supply remains tight, we could be looking at the early stages of a classic Bitcoin squeeze.
