Despite the bold move, the company’s stock slipped 4% in Monday’s trading session, as geopolitical tensions between Iran and Israel rattled global markets.
Over the first half of 2025 alone, Metaplanet has accumulated nearly 10,000 Bitcoins, continuing an aggressive strategy that began earlier this year. Its current holdings are now valued at over $1 billion, with an average entry price around $95,800 per BTC.
Just days after passing the 10K BTC milestone, the firm is showing no signs of slowing. Backed by a recent fundraising round and a long-term vision to acquire 1% of Bitcoin’s total supply (that’s 210,000 BTC), Metaplanet is becoming a key name in institutional Bitcoin accumulation.
The recent purchase follows the completion of several capital raise tranches with EVO FUND, from which Metaplanet received over 550 million JPY. That cash went straight into the Bitcoin market.
Still, broader market sentiment has turned cautious. As military conflict intensifies in the Middle East, and the U.S. becomes more involved, investors have been pulling back from risk assets. Bitcoin briefly fell below $100K over the weekend but has since recovered above $101K at the time of writing.
Metaplanet’s stock, which had been flying high after a 12-year peak last week, pulled back slightly amid the global selloff. Yet the firm’s commitment to Bitcoin continues to attract attention from major institutional investors, with the likes of Capital Group and Citigroup recently buying in.
As regional tensions escalate and markets brace for further volatility, all eyes are on Bitcoin’s resilience, and Metaplanet’s next move.
