Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’—AP Meme Coin Skyrockets, Then Crashes

Elon Musk is back in the headlines—this time not for tech or rockets, but politics. On Saturday, he took to X to unveil the America Party, a political movement aimed at challenging what he calls a “one-party system” marred by corruption and reckless spending.

By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!

When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy.

Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom. https://t.co/9K8AD04QQN

The announcement came just 24 hours after Musk floated the idea of forming a new political party, asking his followers whether it was time for a fresh start.

“Uniparty,”

he wrote, referring to the entrenched bipartisan system. In classic Musk fashion, the statement came wrapped in both sarcasm and serious intent.

The move follows his recent criticism of the $3.3 trillion “Big Beautiful Bill” signed by former President Donald Trump. Musk didn’t mince words, calling the legislation

“insane” and “destructive”

for its massive increase in federal spending.

While the political implications are still unfolding, the crypto market wasted no time reacting.

Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame!

And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 30, 2025

Almost instantly after Musk’s post, a meme coin called America Coin (AP)—launched on Pump.Fun—took off like a rocket. Within hours, it surged more than 120%, briefly hitting a market cap north of $18 million. Although Musk didn’t endorse the token, many traders viewed the timing as more than just a coincidence. Some even dubbed it “the Dogecoin of American politics.”

But the honeymoon didn’t last. By the next day, AP had lost over 70% of its value, crashing back down below a $2 million market cap. The rollercoaster rise and fall serves as yet another reminder of how volatile and speculative meme coins can be—especially when tied to headlines and public figures like Elon Musk.

The surge in interest also reflects a growing trend: crypto traders jumping on political narratives for quick gains. And with Musk now taking a more active role on the political stage, there’s little doubt that more of these headline-fueled pumps will follow.

Still, investors should tread carefully. As always in crypto, especially with meme coins, the line between hype and reality is razor-thin—and the fallout can be fast.
