Ethereum Staking Climbs as Long-Term Holders Ignore Price Weakness
Ethereum may be struggling on the price chart this year, but on-chain activity tells a different story. While ETH has fallen roughly 26% since the start of 2026, the percentage of supply locked in staking has continued to rise, moving from 29% to 31%.

Ethereum Holders Keep Locking Up Supply
The increase suggests many Ethereum investors are still focused on the long term rather than reacting to short-term market swings. Staking allows holders to earn yield while helping secure the network, making it more attractive for investors willing to wait through volatility.
As more ETH gets staked, the amount of Ethereum freely circulating in the market becomes smaller. That doesn’t guarantee a price rebound, but it does tighten available supply and reduces the amount of ETH ready to be sold on exchanges.
The trend is notable given the pressure Ethereum has faced in recent months. Slower ETF inflows, growing competition from other blockchains, and concerns over value shifting toward Layer-2 networks have all weighed on sentiment around ETH.
Still, rising staking numbers show that many holders are not abandoning the ecosystem despite the pullback.
Institutional Demand Could Be the Next Catalyst
Attention is now turning toward institutional adoption and whether fresh capital enters the Ethereum market through spot ETFs and tokenization initiatives.
Ethereum’s staking model remains one of its strongest advantages. Unlike Bitcoin, ETH can generate yield through staking, giving investors exposure to both price appreciation and passive returns.
However, some spot ETF products still do not include staking rewards, which could limit their appeal for larger investors seeking maximum returns. For many market participants, direct ETH staking remains the more attractive option.
Even so, the steady growth in staking reinforces confidence in Ethereum’s long-term role as a leading blockchain network, despite current market weakness.
