Conor McGregor is stepping into a new arena—global finance. The former UFC champion is reportedly set to meet with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele to discuss the potential for Ireland to build its own Bitcoin reserve.
The meeting is expected to take place at the Bitcoin Nation State Summit, according to journalist Max Keiser, who shared on X:
“The nation state Saylor play can be rolled out in Ireland. This would be TOPIC No.1 at the Bitcoin Nation State Summit between President Bukele and Conor McGregor.”
McGregor has recently been vocal about the idea of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve for Ireland, suggesting it could help decentralize power and improve financial sovereignty.
“I can see lots of transparent and trustless applications within crypto,”
McGregor said.
“And I can see an immutable people’s money with Bitcoin.”
He’s also expressed interest in a broader use of crypto to bring transparency to government processes, hinting that Bitcoin might just be the beginning.
Meanwhile, El Salvador continues to pursue its daily Bitcoin accumulation plan despite pressure from international financial organizations. President Bukele’s firm stance appears to have caught McGregor’s attention, as he pushes for a similar move in his home country.
McGregor’s recent crypto involvement hasn’t all been smooth. A memecoin themed around him launched and collapsed shortly after, joining a long list of celebrity token flops. Still, he seems undeterred—and with Bitcoin rallying, the timing of his renewed interest is hard to ignore.
Whether this meeting leads to a real crypto play for Ireland or not, it’s clear that McGregor isn’t afraid to put himself at the center of the digital asset conversation.
