Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has taken another bold step in its Bitcoin accumulation strategy, officially crossing the 20,000 BTC mark in its reserves. The milestone follows a fresh purchase of 1,009 BTC, valued at roughly $112 million, pushing the company’s total Bitcoin holdings to around $2 billion.
A Major Milestone for Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Strategy
The new acquisition was made at an average price of approximately $102,700 per Bitcoin, bringing the firm’s overall cost basis to similar levels. With this purchase, Metaplanet cements itself as one of the most aggressive corporate Bitcoin holders worldwide, rivaling some of the largest institutional treasuries.
The buy comes just weeks after the company scooped up another 103 BTC worth about $11.6 million, signaling its relentless push toward positioning Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset. Industry watchers note that Metaplanet’s approach echoes the playbook of other large-scale Bitcoin treasuries, which continue to see the cryptocurrency as a hedge against inflation and a bet on long-term digital value.
Stock Market Reaction
While Metaplanet’s Bitcoin strategy has captured global attention, its stock performance has been less enthusiastic. Following the latest purchase, shares slipped by 4%, extending a weekly decline of nearly 7%. The downturn reflects broader market weakness, with investors weighing both the volatility of Bitcoin itself and the risks tied to Metaplanet’s financing strategy.

The company’s stock, which had soared more than 400% earlier in 2025, has since lost nearly half its value since mid-June. To counterbalance market concerns, Metaplanet announced plans to raise close to $884 million through an international share sale, with flexibility to expand the offering. It also intends to seek shareholder approval for issuing preferred stock, ensuring the firm has multiple financing avenues to continue expanding its Bitcoin position.

Growing Global Recognition
Metaplanet’s aggressive Bitcoin accumulation strategy has also sparked international interest. In a surprising move, the firm granted Eric Trump 3.3 million shares through stock acquisition rights, underscoring how its Bitcoin vision is drawing connections across financial and political circles.
Despite the stock’s pullback, Metaplanet appears determined to double down on its Bitcoin-first approach, treating the cryptocurrency not just as an investment but as a cornerstone of its balance sheet strategy.

Broader Bitcoin Market Trends
The company’s announcement comes at a time when Bitcoin itself has faced selling pressure, with prices dipping about 5% over the past week amid outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs. Even so, Metaplanet’s steady accumulation highlights a growing trend: corporations adopting Bitcoin as a long-term treasury asset, regardless of short-term market volatility.
