Metaplanet, a company based in Japan, has added 145 BTC to its stash, bringing its total up to a clean 5,000. The new buy happened just a few days after its previous one, showing that the company isn’t slowing down.
The 145 BTC cost them around $13.6 million, with each coin bought at an average price of just over $93,000. According to their CEO, Simon Gerovich, the company’s investments have been performing well so far this year.
“Metaplanet acquired 145 BTC for approximately 1.926 billion yen (approximately 13.28 million yen per BTC), achieving a BTC yield of 121.1% so far in 2025,”
said Gerovich.
So far, the company has spent around $428 million on its BTC purchases, averaging about $85K per coin. Their most recent buy came shortly after they picked up 330 BTC for $28 million.
Metaplanet is aiming to build up a total of 10,000 BTC by the end of the year, and this latest move puts them halfway there.
“We have reached 50% of our initial goal of 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025,”
said Gerovich.
“This is a big step forward in our aim to become one of the world’s leading bitcoin holding companies.”
To keep buying, they’re looking at new ways to raise money — including offering bonds with no interest. They’ve also brought Eric Trump onto their advisory board to help guide their strategy.
So far, the market hasn’t reacted much to the news. Prices are still trading sideways, with BTC staying above $90K. Meanwhile, the value of Satoshi Nakamoto’s wallet has passed $100 billion.
