A prominent digital payments provider has secured approval under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. This license, granted by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, positions the platform to expand its services across Europe while maintaining compliance with stringent regulatory standards.
What MiCA Brings to the Table
MiCA establishes a unified legal framework for digital assets across the European Economic Area (EEA), aiming to enhance transparency, consumer protection, and market stability. Gaining MiCA approval signals a commitment to these principles, strengthening trust between users and the growing digital economy.
A Milestone for European Crypto
“This approval underscores our commitment to regulatory excellence and our mission to build a trusted bridge between traditional finance and the crypto economy,”
said Ivan Soto-Wright, the CEO and co-founder.
He further noted,
“MiCA is a turning point for the European digital asset industry, and we’re proud to have collaborated with the Dutch AFM to achieve this milestone.”
With this certification, the platform continues to offer fiat-to-digital asset and digital asset-to-fiat payment services throughout Europe. Operating in over 180 countries and supporting 100+ digital assets, it now looks to solidify its role in the global financial ecosystem.
Future Acquisitions and Expansion
Reports suggest Moonpay is in discussions to acquire Helio Pay, a cryptocurrency e-commerce platform, for approximately $150 million. If completed, this would mark the firm’s largest acquisition, significantly boosting its merchant services capabilities.
CEO Soto-Wright remarked,
“This milestone is not just about compliance; it’s about solidifying the crypto industry’s place in the global financial system. We’re eager to deepen collaborations with regulators, businesses, and users as we shape the future of digital payments.”
The MiCA framework, now fully effective, represents a pivotal step for the European market and sets the stage for further innovation in digital payments.
