Hayden Adams, the creator behind a leading DeFi protocol, believes Ethereum’s best bet in maintaining a competitive edge lies in doubling down on its Layer 2 roadmap. With rival blockchains gaining ground, he’s urging the Ethereum community not to waver.
L2 Is the Way Forward, Says Adams
In a recent post on X, Adams shared his thoughts on Ethereum’s future, warning against shifting strategies every few weeks. According to him, Ethereum has spent years developing a vision around horizontal scaling through Layer 2s—and abandoning that now would be a misstep.
He argued that Solana’s speed and structure give it an advantage at the base layer, while Ethereum’s strength lies in its L2 ecosystem. Switching gears this late in the game could derail the progress already made.
“Ethereum has been working towards an L2-centric/horizontal scaling roadmap for 5+ years,” Adams wrote. “You want to throw this away at the final stretch because of what reason?”
Open to Alternatives, But with Caveats
While he’s firmly in the Layer 2 camp, Adams did admit he’s open to the idea of Ethereum leaning into Layer 1 again—if done clearly and realistically. He emphasized that this would mean dropping some long-held ideals, like every laptop being able to run a full node.
Interestingly, despite his stance, he acknowledged that most of his protocol’s users are still on Ethereum’s mainnet. So a pivot wouldn’t be all bad—just riskier.
Ethereum vs. Solana: The Race Heats Up
As Ethereum wrestles with its next move, Solana continues to build momentum. The debate over which blockchain will lead in DeFi is gaining steam, especially with both assets hovering around key price levels.
Meanwhile, ETH has been struggling to stay above $2,000 and is facing one of its toughest quarters in recent memory. Yet, some major holders remain committed. Justin Sun, for example, has said he’s not letting go of his ETH bags anytime soon and plans to work more closely with the community to push development forward.
